SeaZen industrializes the production of its solar boats in Kit
Solar navigation is a niche market in France and around the world. The demand is there, and the business model has been proven. But there were no manufacturers positioned in this market. SeaZen has developed a kit solution. This innovative construction method, certified by the Pôle Mer Méditerranée (Mediterranean Sea Cluster), enables modules to be manufactured in industrial facilities, with a view to final assembly of the vessel in a simple workshop. Each module is manufactured in France, speeding up the construction process and optimizing finishing efficiency. The Kit is particularly well suited to this solar-powered catamaran. Only 18 screws are needed to securely join the 2 hulls to the deck structure.
To design this Kit, we had to start from scratch, while capitalizing on 8 years of experimentation with several solar boat demonstrators that have carried more than 10,000 passengers over more than 10,000 km. The aim is to make this boat simple, robust and efficient. Hence the name SRE 3.0, and “3.0” because it’s the 3rd generation of this type of solar boat.
The prototype Kit was launched in July 2024. Thanks to the Kit, the price of a solar boat once assembled is reduced by 20% compared with a similar boat produced individually by a traditional shipyard method.
This boat will be aimed at a professional clientele, typically entrepreneurs or employees wishing to give new meaning to their careers. The franchise business model has already been proven and deployed in several ports. The purchase of the boat can be amortized within one year of full commercial activity.
The SeaZen company
Founded in 2015, SeaZen has become a leader in solar navigation at sea. How? The company has proven its B2B2C business model by transporting more than 10,000 visitors, over more than 10,000 km thanks to fully autonomous navigation using the sun’s energy.
Today, SeaZen integrates the entire value chain, from solar boat design to passenger transport and captain recruitment, via a franchise that supports entrepreneurs with a proven business model.
Founder Guillaume Jacquet-Lagrèze explains: “The energy transition is 50% technology and 50% change of use. We’re developing the support offer for professionals at the same time as solar boats adapted for rental.”
